Term Definition
Testosterone

Hormone produced in males and females from the ovaries and adrenal glands (glands close to the kidneys). Testosterone levels fall with age and may be reduced by some treatments for breast cancer

Thrombosis

The formation of a blood clot in a blood vessel

Thrush

An infection caused by yeast that appears as white patches on the tongue or mouth

Transfusion

The transfer of blood or blood products from a donor to another person

Transvaginal ultrasound

An ultrasound used to look at a woman's reproductive organs that involves inserting an ultrasound probe into the vagina

Transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous

A type of breast reconstruction using fat, skin and a muscle from the stomach

Troches

A lozenge or pastille

Ultrasound

A way of producing a picture of the inside of the body using sound waves

Undescended testis

A condition that may be associated with an increased risk of breast cancer in men

Uterus

Another name for the womb

Weight-bearing exercise

Exercise that involves putting weight on the feet (such as walking or running)

White blood cells

Blood cells produced by the bone marrow that help the body to fight

Whole abdominal radiotherapy (WART)

Delivery of radiotherapy to the whole of the abdomen

Wide local excision

X-ray

A way of taking a picture of the body using electromagnetic radiation
