Multidisciplinary care is becoming an increasingly important component of national and State/Territory cancer frameworks. National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre is committed to improving the uptake of multidisciplinary cancer care, using lessons learned from a number of key national projects. Treatment and supportive care for people with cancer involves a number of different medical and allied health care professionals. Evidence indicates that a team approach to cancer care, in which health care professionals together consider all treatment options and develop an individual treatment plan for each patient, can reduce mortality and improve quality of life for the patient.

Such an integrated approach to health care is known as multidisciplinary care.

A number of guides, tools, proformas and resources are available from National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre about multidisciplinary care. These resources are relevant for all cancer types.
