Clinical trials

Clinical trials are studies involving patients, conducted in order to help find better ways to prevent, diagnose, or treat diseases.

Studies involving cancer patients try to find out whether promising approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment are safe and effective. The major advances that have been made in breast cancer treatment were first tested in carefully conducted clinical trials.

Information on whether or not a hospital provides the opportunity to enter relevant clinical trials is provided in the Directory.

For further information on clinical trials see the Clinical practice guidelines for the management of early breast cancer or for more information see the clinical trials section in NBCC's breasthealth website.
