The latest news from the National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre (NBOCC) for July 2009.
Seeding grants awarded for 2009
National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre (NBOCC) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Polo Ralph Lauren Pink Pony Campaign Seeding Grants for 2009.
Six seeding grants have been awarded this year, all of which are aimed at improving community-based support for women with breast cancer in rural, regional and remote Australia.
The successful applicants and their projects are:
- Barossa Area Fundraisers for Cancer (SA): to establish a Breast Cancer Home Assist Program for women undergoing treatment for breast cancer to help with duties such as cleaning, cooking and yard maintenance during their treatment.
- Colac Area Health (VIC): to develop a Community Resource Library for local women.
- Kerang District Health (VIC): to provide a Wig and Hat Library within the local community.
- Lismore and District Women’s Health Centre (NSW): to establish the Refresh program to develop information resources about the benefits of lymphatic drainage massage and to provide access to lymphoedema practitioners.
- North Coast Area Health Service (NSW): to conduct a seminar, Working out my next move – beyond breast cancer, to encourage local women to pursue a healthy lifestyle following their diagnosis with breast cancer.
- The Wellness Foundation (NSW): to establish the Lymphoedema support for the Central West program to improve access to information on lymphoedema including treatment and support services.
Women diagnosed with breast cancer face a range of emotional, psychological, physical and practical challenges, which can be compounded by their rural, regional or remote location. Providing access to information and support services at the local level greatly assists women and their families through their cancer journey.
