Reach to recovery -– One Journey, many people

NBOCC was pleased to support the UICC Reach to Recovery International Breast Cancer Support Conference in Brisbane recently, a worldwide forum for women affected by breast cancer.

Bringing together women from across the world, the powerful conference addressed the themes of survivorship, capacity building and peer support, demonstrating the different challenges faced by breast cancer patients and survivors from Kenya to Brazil to Australia.

The conference provided a unique opportunity for Dr Helen Zorbas (CEO, NBOCC), Lyn Swinburne (CEO, Breast Cancer Network Australia) and Sue Murray (CEO, National Breast Cancer Foundation) to present together, outlining the role of each organisation and the way they work collaboratively to achieve genuine improvements for breast cancer patients and their families. The three leaders outlined how NBOCC provides evidence-based information to consumers, the community and health professionals, NBCF funds quality research, and BNCA links and supports families affected by the breast cancer.

The session, National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre Interventions for Survivorship, presented an overview of NBOCC’s survivorship initiatives and resources including Cancer - how are you travelling? Understanding the emotional and social impact of cancer; NBOCC’s survivorship website; Breast cancer and early menopause: a guide for younger women; and Understanding lymphoedema.
