Constipation might be caused by:

  • use of drugs such as codeine or morphine for pain relief or anti-emetics for nausea
  • lack of movement due to weakness or pain
  • the cancer affecting the bowel
  • not drinking enough fluids.

A member of the treatment team can provide advice about managing constipation. An accredited practising dietitian can provide advice about changes to diet that may be helpful.
